For nearly a decade Irene Morales has been baking some of the most spectacular street food in town according to NOW online magazine June/2004.  She opened JUMBO EMPANADAS INC once a subterranean take-away Jumbo's authentic Chilean street food is now served in a modest cafe four doors down from its old location in the heart of Kensington Market (245 Augusta, 416-977-0056) and has received many positive reviews from different magazines in Toronto.

Irene Morales began cooking at a young age, born in Chile; Irene arrived Toronto 20 years ago. She had a job at the Chilean consulate; she left her job to pursue a career in the food business to provide the same quality you’d expect in any Latin American city.

At JUMBO EMPANADAS INC we follow strict standards on service, quality and presentation. We use only the finest ingredients in all of our dishes to ensure that every meal we serve is delicious and nutritious. We encourage you to visit our restaurant and experience our Latin turnovers known as empanadas stuffed with beef or chicken, laced with raisins and olives and slices of hardboiled egg. Order one with the Chilean salad, a tangy, citrus-dressed plate of greens and vegetables, or a humita — a Chilean tamale, wrapped in the traditional corn husk, but filled with a rich corn pudding.

That sweet, rich corn pudding is the topping on Irene’s corn pie, a very filling mix of chicken and beef. Order it with a can of Inka Kola — the soft drink export of Chile’s neighbour, Peru or Chilean wine — and end your meal with a coffee and an alfajoles or an empolvado, soft sweet biscuits hugging a dulce de leche filling.

We look forward to your visit!
